About Us

Legal Resources® serves more than 500 participating employer groups throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region (Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia) and nationally.

Legal Resources® is the only provider that allows employees to select a full service law firm during the enrollment process and access to thousands of attorneys nationwide.

Since 1991, our comprehensive Legal Resources® Plan has been licensed by the Virginia State Corporation Commission, Bureau of Insurance and registered by the Attorney General's Office, Department of Consumer Affairs for the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Legal Resources® is a voluntary employee benefit plan that provides a wide array of legal services for employees and their dependents.

Most services are covered at 100%, meaning the member and their dependents pay no attorney fees when they use the services and there are no hourly caps.

Unlike EAP plans and other legal plans that primarily provide attorney discounts and have members access attorneys by calling an 800-number, Legal Resources® members receive more legal services covered at 100% than any other plan in the country, and have the ability to select a local law firm which they will consistently use for all covered services.

As an example, employees use the plan for:

  • Advice and Consultation
  • Help with Consumer issues
  • Traffic Court
  • Wills and Trusts
  • Assistance with Identity Theft Recovery
  • Divorce and Child Custody
  • Courtroom Representation
  • Buying, Selling or refinancing homes
  • and many more
Please do not confuse us with other Legal Plans

WHAT MAKES LEGAL RESOURCES DIFFERENT

Legal Resources® is unique compared to other prepaid legal plans. The following will explain how Legal Resources® is different:

A. Low Cost, Straightforward Design - Legal Resources® has very low monthly premiums for employees and family coverage. This nominal cost can be deceiving because the Legal Resources® plan is one of the most comprehensive legal plans in the nation. Legal Resources® had its beginning in 1991 in Virginia Beach, VA. From its very beginning, Legal Resources®' only purpose was to make legal services available and affordable for everyone. This cannot be accomplished if a legal plan has "watered down" coverage or "fine print" exclusions or limitations. The Legal Resources® plan was designed to be as simple and understandable as possible.

B. Coverage from Beginning to Conclusion - Legal Resources® does not limit pre-trial coverage. The fact is most legal matters are settled prior to actual trial. It is very misleading to increase trial coverage which is unlikely to be utilized while retaining unreasonable limitations on pre-trial coverage. Legal Resources® provides coverage from the beginning of a covered legal service to conclusion.

C. Paid in Full Coverage - A prepaid legal plan does not pay its attorneys for providing "Discounted Fee" services to its members. These attorneys are willing to reduce their fees to obtain new business. In most cases this means the individual has to pay in excess of $100 per hour for these discounted legal services. If an individual has the financial ability to pay $100 or more per hour for legal services, they probably don't need a group legal plan. There are no co-payments nor usage limits or hourly caps for covered services. This erases the financial barrier which historically has prevented many people from obtaining the legal assistance they need.

D. Largest Panel of Plan Attorneys in Virginia - Legal Resources® has over 70 law firms located throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. This provides Legal Resources® plan members an excellent wide variety of law firms to select from with "paid in full benefits". Freedom to choose your own law firm is one of the foundations of the Legal Resources® plan. Members develop a relationship with their law firm similar to that of their family dentist or medical doctor. With other prepaid legal plans employees are assigned to one or two law firms serving that particular state and that law firm decides who will provide you service - there is simply no choice.

E. Broad Comprehensive Coverage - The real test in judging a group legal plan is exactly what is covered and to what degree the legal matter is covered. In may cases this is only discovered when the employee is sitting at the table with the attorney. Legal Resources® provides very broad coverage within its "paid in full" legal services ranging from real estate closing to traffic court representation to the drawing of comprehensive wills to uncontested divorces and adoptions. Identity Theft protection is covered at no additional charge. Other plans charge extra for this benefit.

F. True Group Legal Plan - Legal Resources® is a "group" legal plan and is licensed by the State Corporation Commission, Bureau of Insurance, as a group legal plan since 1991. Because of the broad, comprehensive coverage, Legal Resources® is not available to individuals who are not part of a group employer sponsored plan, however the plan is portable and employees can keep the coverage once they leave their employer. Other prepaid legal plans market their product to individuals on a pyramid or multi-level marketing basis. Because Legal Resources® is a true group plan model, it is able to offer broad comprehensive coverage with no deductibles, no waiting periods, no co-pays, no claim forms, and no maximums at very nominal monthly rates.

G. Delivery of Legal Services - Legal Resources® does not require employees to first contact a "gatekeeper" or "800" number call center or an access attorney to review the employee's legal need prior to an assignment or referral to an attorney. Legal Resources® members select a full service law firm during the enrollment process. When a legal need arises the employee contacts the selected law firm and receives the desired legal service.

H. Compensation of Plan Attorney Law Firms - Legal Resources® requires every Plan Attorney law firm to sign a full service retainer agreement. Legal Resources® pays their attorneys a percentage of members' monthly premium every month which obviously increases the Legal Resources® commitment to provide excellent and timely service to members. Other legal plans compensate their attorneys with discounted hourly fees or set fee per legal matter.

These above elements create a significant difference in the level of attorney commitment to members and ease of accessing and utilizing legal services by members when compared to other legal plan delivery systems.

The Legal Resources® delivery of legal services provides a higher level of comfort and convenience for employees and their family members. The end result is a more proactive, user-friendly legal plan.
